Exceptional Hardship Fund (EHF) Energy Rebate Scheme

Uttlesford District Council are offering additional support around rising energy bills and the cost of living.

The EHF Energy Rebate Scheme is open to those who have not qualified under the main or discretionary schemes.

How do I know if I qualify?

To qualify for the EHF Energy Rebate residents must:

  • Be solely or mainly resident in the property and the person liable for the Council Tax. In addition, the property must have been listed between bands E-H in the Council Tax valuation list in the Uttlesford area on the 1st April 2022
  • Be suffering financial hardship that is affecting their ability to pay their energy bill
  • Have not already received an energy rebate
EHF Energy Rebate Scheme closing date

The EHF Energy Rebate scheme will close on the 31st October 2022 and the maximum award that can be granted is £200.

This scheme is separate to the Exceptional Hardship Fund for help towards Council Tax bills.

Examples of residents who may wish to apply:

  • A single parent in a Band E-H property who does not qualify for the discretionary scheme but is struggling to pay household bills
  • A person living in a HMO, where the landlord is responsible for the Council Tax, but the residents are collectively responsible for their utility bills. (Please note only one payment can be made per property which should be offset against the energy bills for the whole household)
  • A household that has suffered a recent change which has led to financial hardship, this may be due to illness, bereavement, separation
How to apply

All applications will be made through Uttlesford District Council website at: Energy rebate – Exceptional Hardship Fund application – Uttlesford District Council

Applicants will need to supply details of their situation, an income/ expenditure form, the last month’s bank statements for all accounts held and that they have access to and a recent (gas/electric/oil) utility bill. All of this will need to be completed and uploaded through the website and once assessed awards will be paid via BACs or a credit onto their Council Tax account.
